TrueCoach does not offer a permanent free tier. New accounts start on a 14-day free trial with no credit card required.

What each TrueCoach plan includes

Starter ($29.98/month, up to 5 active clients)

Includes the program and workout builder, 3,000+ video exercise library, client management tracker, MyFitnessPal nutrition and habit tracker sync, client dashboard, in-app messaging, and automated client payments (subject to the 5% processing fee). Starter omits wearable integrations, custom branding, public coach profiles, and Zapier automations.

Standard ($69.98/month, up to 20 active clients)

Adds public coach profiles for lead capture, wearable data sync (Apple, Garmin, WHOOP, Oura), custom theming (your logo and colours), advanced habit and nutrition tracking, and Zapier automations.

Pro ($164.98/month, up to 50 active clients)

Includes the same core feature list as Standard, raised to a 50-client ceiling. Once you sign your 21st active client, you must step up from $69.98/month to $164.98/month, making your 21st client cost $95/month in extra software fees until you fill the tier.

The 5% payment processing fee: what it costs you

TrueCoach advertises "Free Automated Payments" on its pricing cards because there is no monthly add-on charge to turn billing on. However, TrueCoach's official Payouts help centre article spells out three rules every coach should calculate before running client billing through it:

  1. Flat 5% processing fee: TrueCoach deducts 5% from client payments processed through its Stripe integration, compared with Stripe's standard US domestic card rate of 2.9% + $0.30 on platforms that charge 0% markup.
  2. Refunds are charged too: TrueCoach's help centre notes that transaction processing fees apply both to money you collect and to money you refund back to a client, which can leave a negative Stripe balance after a refund.
  3. Four countries only: TrueCoach Payments is restricted to coaches based in the US, UK, Australia, and Canada. Coaches elsewhere must bill outside the app.

Here is the real monthly difference between TrueCoach's 5% card rate and standard US Stripe (2.9% + $0.30, 0% platform commission) assuming clients pay $200/month each:

Active clients (at $200/mo each)Monthly client revenueTrueCoach 5% card feesStandard Stripe fees (2.9% + $0.30)Extra fee paid on TrueCoach every month
5 clients$1,000$50.00$30.50+$19.50/mo ($234/yr)
20 clients$4,000$200.00$122.00+$78.00/mo ($936/yr)
25 clients$5,000$250.00$152.50+$97.50/mo ($1,170/yr)
50 clients$10,000$500.00$305.00+$195.00/mo ($2,340/yr)
100 clients$20,000$1,000.00$610.00+$390.00/mo ($4,680/yr)

(Tip: you are not forced to use TrueCoach Payments. Many coaches on TrueCoach bill clients directly in their own standalone Stripe or PayPal account to avoid the extra ~2% spread, though doing so gives up native checkout-to-account automation.)

Real total monthly cost: TrueCoach vs Trainerize vs Everfit vs Kahunas

Combining monthly software subscription + extra platform payment fees above standard Stripe (assuming $200/month client packages, monthly billing, USD) shows what leaves your bank account at 5, 20, 50, 100, and 200 clients:

TrueCoach vs Trainerize vs Everfit: when TrueCoach still makes sense

TrueCoach earns loyal strength, powerlifting, and CrossFit coaches for good reasons:

  • Fast, clean programming UX: Building multi-week strength templates with percentages, RPE, and video demos from its 3,000+ exercise library is quick and uncluttered.
  • No nutrition clutter if you do not coach food: If you write lifting blocks and want zero meal-planning menus getting in your way, TrueCoach stays focused.

Where TrueCoach falls behind in 2026:

  • No built-in food database or recipe builder: Nutrition relies on MyFitnessPal sync and static PDF uploads, whereas Kahunas, Everfit, and Trainerize let clients log food and scan barcodes in one app.
  • Steep 21-client jump ($69.98 -> $164.98/month) and quote-only pricing past 50 clients.
  • No built-in communities, courses, challenges, or blood lab tracking.

Where Kahunas fits (our product, honest version)

Disclosure: Kahunas is our product.

At 25 clients, Kahunas costs $62.50/month ($50/month billed yearly) compared with $164.98/month on TrueCoach Pro before counting TrueCoach's 5% payment fee. Every Kahunas plan includes a 1,700+ video workout builder, 1.5M+ food database with barcode scanning, side-by-side check-ins, wearables, blood test Labs, AI insights, and 0% commission on your own Stripe and PayPal accounts across 17 currencies. At 50 seats ($100/month), Kahunas adds Exercise Analysis rep and joint-angle tracking, an in-check-in Screen Recorder, Crew AI assistants, and Team Hub.

Kahunas's limits vs TrueCoach: TrueCoach has a larger stock video library (3,000+ vs 1,700+, though both allow custom uploads), and TrueCoach Standard ($69.98/month) includes logo/colour theming earlier than Kahunas (which unlocks full app branding and custom domains at 200 seats). Kahunas installs in three taps as a client web app rather than a native App Store download.

FAQ

How much is TrueCoach per month in 2026?

On monthly billing, TrueCoach costs $29.98/month for Starter (up to 5 active clients), $69.98/month for Standard (up to 20 clients), and $164.98/month for Pro (up to 50 clients). Annual billing lowers those equivalents to $26.34, $57.99, and $136.99/month. Over 50 clients requires contacting sales.

Does TrueCoach take 5% of payments?

Yes. TrueCoach's official Payouts documentation states that payments processed through TrueCoach carry a 5% Stripe processing fee, applied to both incoming client payments and refunds, and available only in the US, UK, Australia, and Canada.

Does TrueCoach have a meal planner?

No. TrueCoach lets coaches set calorie and macro goals, attach PDFs, and sync daily totals from MyFitnessPal, rather than providing an in-app food database or recipe generator. See our nutrition coaching apps comparison if you prescribe meals.

What is the best cheaper alternative to TrueCoach?

For strength-only programming on a small budget, Hevy Coach starts at $25/month for 10 clients (clients use the Hevy app). For full online coaching with workouts, nutrition, check-ins, and 0%-commission Stripe/PayPal payments, Kahunas charges $5/seat down to $2.50 at 25 seats ($62.50/month) and $2.00 at 50 seats ($100/month). Compare 10 options in our coaching platforms roundup.

Bottom line

TrueCoach is a crisp workout builder for rosters of 5 to 20 strength clients, especially if you bill outside TrueCoach to avoid the 5% card fee. Once you pass 20 clients or coach nutrition alongside training, the jump to $164.98/month plus 5% transaction fees eats thousands of dollars a year in margin. Start a 14-day free Kahunas trial (with a 3-month money-back guarantee) to keep 100% of your coaching revenue after standard Stripe/PayPal fees.
